What Is ASTM A653 Galvanized Steel?
ASTM A653 is the go-to standard for hot-dip galvanized steel sheet. It covers steel sheet in coils and cut lengths, specifying requirements for the properties of the base steel substrate and zinc coating. All galvanized steel in the United States is coated in zinc through a continuous hot-dip galvanizing process. The coating thickness or “coating weight” is directly dependent on how long the steel substrate is in the liquid zinc bath. When hot rolled or cold rolled steel substrates get galvanized it creates a corrosion-resistant finish on top of the steel that performs well outdoors. At Hascall Steel, we stock galvanized steel from 26 gauge to 10 gauge, in every grade from EDDS to HSLA Grade 80, and coating thicknesses from G30 to G235.
